What goes into making an event like Scorpion Kings Live happen?
On 19 September 2026, over 74,000 people came together at FNB Stadium to see Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa make history in South African music. Africa’s biggest stadium became the stage for a sound that started here.
There is something deeply moving about seeing music that has soundtracked our everyday lives take the stage at that scale. The songs we play on the way to work and at family gatherings, the ones behind TikTok dance challenges that have travelled the world, are now filling FNB Stadium. For the Scorpion Kings, the artists who shared that stage, and the people who have carried Amapiano with them, this night truly mattered.
At Duma Collective, we believe in fearless creativity. That’s what drives us: the ideas, experiences, and opportunities we help create. Scorpion Kings Live let us put that belief into action on a huge scale. We started with sponsorship talks at the end of 2025, then moved into formal planning in February 2026. Working with other agencies, we helped secure the brand partnerships that made Scorpion Kings Live possible.
Our sponsorship team was led by our Founder and CEO, Sibu Mabena, along with Thato Matlhabegoane, Director of Partnerships, Sponsorships & Experience, and supported by Bongiwe Nzuza, Sponsorships and Partnerships Account Manager. Together, they approached prospective sponsors with a clear understanding of the opportunity: to contribute to a significant chapter in South African music while building meaningful connections with its audience. Then we got to work bringing those plans to life at the stadium. We met, collaborated across teams, and spent days at FNB Stadium that felt like our second home. We worked closely with other agencies and event teams to make the sponsorships happen as part of the larger event. And yes, we walked about 20,000 steps a day, a silent nod to employee wellness.
Everyone involved in this collaboration deserves recognition. An event this big brings together people with different skills and backgrounds, all working toward the same goal. We’re proud to have worked with the teams whose hard work made it happen.
As the stadium filled, we could really feel the impact of our work. Thousands of people came together to share songs, memories, and pride in how far this music has come. The ambition was clear for everyone to see. For our sponsorship partners, this event also offered a strong business opportunity. We focused on helping each brand build awareness, increase visibility, connect with the audience, and deliver a return on investment. From where we placed activations to how fans interacted with them, we ensured every partner had a real role and purpose at the event.
We want to thank Sony Music Entertainment, our sponsorship partners, and all the event and agency teams for their trust and teamwork. Special thanks to Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa for the vision that brought us all together at FNB. We’re proud to have been part of a night that South African music will never forget.
